MAYOR’S OPEN HOUSE.  The Charlestown Open House held by Mayor Martin J. Walsh on November 16 was deemed a big success as all of the major city departments hosted exhibits and answered questions from many residents.

A news report tells us that because of insufficient funds, New Year’s Eve fireworks may be moved from the harbor to Copley Square. Apparently the shortfall is about $100,000. See a full report

With improvement in the economy, many projects are starting up in our neighborhood. In 2017, we can expect to see these activities:

  • the start of the Charlestown Bridge replacement
  • a row of 90 rental units in the old Ropewalk building
  • a residential hotel in the Chain Forge building on First Avenue
  • the rebuilding of Pier 6 as part of Charlestown Marina
  • the rebuilding of HarborWalk between Piers 5 and 8.

Outside the Navy Yard, an enormous, 10-year long project called One Charlestown, will replace public housing on Bunker Hill Street with mixed income residences combined with commercial and retail spaces.

Mayor Martin J. Walsh and many of his staff will hold an open house to update the community on these and other Charlestown projects on Wednesday, November 16, from 6:00 till 8:00 p.m. at the Harvard Kent School, 50 Bunker Hill Street.

As with all public meetings, the Friends of Charlestown Navy Yard will be there. Check this website for details about all of these developments.
